Gluten Free

What is gluten free & why is everything at our shop gluten free?

Most people who are required to eat a gluten free diet have Celiac Disease. There are also some who don’t have the disease but they are allergic or intolerant to gluten. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley and rye and is also used as a food additive in the form of a flavoring, stabilizing or thickening agent.

Those who are diagnosed with Celiac Disease or Gluten Intolerance are often discouraged once they try some of the gluten free options out there.

There are many restaurants that claim to have gluten free food but there can be a lot of cross contamination with that. There have been several times members of our family have gone out to eat a good gluten free meal and have gotten sick later from contamination. Because all of our cooks have Celiac Disease we understand the importance of this. We routinely test for traces of gluten in the cornmeal we use for our arepas and all of our menu items are gluten free so there is no cross contamination.

Also, a lot gluten free food is grainy and dry and once you try a few products like that it’s hard to believe there’s any tasty gluten free food out there.

We’re here to tell you gluten free food can be delicious! You can even bring your non-gluten free friends and family and they’ll enjoy the food as well!!

Our family loves to eat and when we all found out we had Celiac Disease we were bound and determined to make food that tastes like real food! With so many of us working on it we were able to come up with many delicious recipes and because we have always been big fans of food –we know what tastes good.

When non-gluten free friends and family of ours try our food the typical reaction is “Wow! That tastes like real food!” or “That can’t be gluten free.”

Whether you can eat gluten or not we challenge you to visit Eleanor’s Bakeshop and try our food for yourself!
